The 4 T’s of virtual tendering

30 June, 2020

You accepted the mission. You are going to procure or tender a project in a virtual world, but all you need to do is remember the 4 T’s – Talent, Tools, Time, Team.

Talent

In terms of Talent, for once you have access to anybody you want – in any state, in any city and in any time zone. They don’t need to be coming in and out. You don’t have the burden of those expenses. So, grab your experts, know where you need your Talent, bring some seasoned bidders in but also provide clear scopes of work to a variety of people. As long as they can work virtually, you’ve got them on your team.

Tools

We’ve got millions of tools at our fingertips and every home, company and organization has its preference. You need to pick the rights ones for the right purpose. Ask yourself, if this, then that and make sure you train your team in them – know where you’re chatting, know where you’re saving and know how you’re managing the meeting. It’s going to be really important.

Time

Your program is integral in this instance. Don’t let a week slip by and make sure that all those opportunities for collaboration happen really early on in the procurement and bid phase are still covered. You need to create war rooms – places where people can come together, set times each week where they can share ideas and bring that brains trust together because you don’t get that normal office banter and floor conversation happening.

Team

Be an amazing leader. It is so important for you to be putting out regular updates. Choose video over long boring emails. Make sure people know where they’re at in the journey and how things are going. Share the IP and knowledge so that you can bring that whole story together.

At Struber, we love bidding! And we would love to help you. If you need any assistance and want to talk through some ideas, just give us a call.
