In 2014, the Australian Government announced that Badgerys Creek would be the site of the new Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport (WSI). Struber was engaged by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications to address key challenges surrounding airspace and flight path design impacts to develop a Community Engagement and Communications Strategy.

Struber developed a Community Engagement and Communications Strategy for the Department, to consider engagement with 2.1 million people potentially affected or interested in the flight path. Struber developed an approach to build relationships, engage and consult with stakeholders, minimising the risks to Federal and State Governments and ensuring stakeholder needs were incorporated into the design.

Struber completed extensive demographic analysis of more than 12 local government areas (LGAs), representing more than 2.1 million people (28% of NSW’s population). We reviewed and analysed more than 430 stakeholders to identify key influencers, movers and shakers that informed the strategy as representatives of the community. With these findings, combined with our demographic analysis, we formed an effective strategy.
