Mt. Lindesay Highway Upgrade

Establishing and maintaining effective communication with impacted and interested stakeholders about the proposed noise attenuation treatments during design phase.

BG&E

28 May, 2021

As part of the project’s detailed design phase, Department of Transport and Main Roads completed a Road Traffic Noise Assessment (RTNA). Based on the recommendations from the RTNA, TMR will provide appropriate noise attenuation treatments (such as noise barriers) to reduce noise levels below the appropriate noise criteria.

Struber worked with BG&E and the noise specialist, SLR Consulting to inform and consult with the affected stakeholders to ensure information was communicated in a timely, clear and effective manner.

Community consultation involved identifying the affected stakeholders and the communication activities to be undertaken, engaging and responding to concerns raised, and managing enquiries in a timely manner.
Our approach to consulting with the community included:

  • Conducting face-to-face and teleconference meetings with key stakeholders
  • Developing and distributing stakeholder notifications about proposed noise attenuation treatments
  • Developing responses to enquiries received via the 1800 project hotline and email, ensuring enquiries were responded to in a timely manner.

The consultation undertaken between March to May 2021 included:

  • 21 stakeholder notifications (detailing safety improvements and the proposed noise attenuation treatments)
  • 4 stakeholder meetings (including directly affected and interested landowners)
  • 1 map developed to visually represent the proposed locations of the noise attenuation treatments.
