Struber joined the Structures Services team, within Brisbane City Council as an embedded Senior consultant to lead communications and stakeholder engagement activities.

The Structures team are responsible for the inspection, construction and maintenance of major Brisbane River crossings such as the Iconic Story Bridge and other waterways structures, which includes around 4,000 road and pedestrian bridges, culverts and jetties.

The work undertaken by Structures ranges from urgent repairs made quicky to full design and construction projects which require dedicated stakeholder engagement and communications.

Struber focused on establishing internal relationships within Brisbane City Council and project teams, while also concentrating on the community and stakeholders to deliver successful communication and engagement activities.
Key strategies and milestones included:
  • Struber developed a broader communications framework and guidelines for Structures, which has resulted in the delivery of consistent, high-quality communications
  • Struber focused on internal department relationships and internal-facing communications, including the production of videos and award nominations to promote success within the Structures team. These have been used in internal communications such as newsletters as well as social media such as LinkedIn and Facebook
  • Struber ensured proactive communication was identified, resulting in positive working relationships and support for Council activities which have directly impacted neighbouring residents and businesses.

Struber’s delivery experience enabled a quick and trusted transition into the team, leading tasks that included:

  • Developed Council templates such as Briefing notes, contact centre scripts, website pages, key message templates for media team and letters
  • Identified and coordinated proactive media and project opportunities to highlight project milestones and enhance Council’s key messages
  • Coordinated all engagement and communication activities with no major complaints to local Councillors or the Lord Mayor’s Office
